Worcester, Worcestershire

If you're staying at Pitmaston House in Worcester, you really should find the time to explore the city because it's a lovely place to mooch about for a few hours and there's so much to see and do. There's a lot of history here amidst the streets and ancient passages; for starters the, beautiful cathedral where you can see King John's tomb, the medieval cloisters, and some exquisite Victorian stained glass. Greyfriars House is very interesting, as is the 500 year old Tudor House Museum, and at The Commandery you can find out all about the English Civil War.

Have a leisurely stroll through one of the picturesque landscaped parks, or along the river, or take a boat trip from South Quay; you might be lucky enough to be in town to catch a cricket match at the scenic county ground, or a performance at the Swan Theatre. For something more active head for the tennis court or go and have fun on the zip wire at Cripplegate Park, and if that works up an appetite try The King Charles II or The Cardinal's Hat for a nice pub lunch; for cake and tea you should go to the fabulously pretty G&Tea. Worcester has several very good restaurants that are excellent both day and night, among them are two particularly good ones, Ostlers at No 1 and The Old Rectifying House.
