Group Accommodation With A Private Indoor Pool and Hot Tub

If you’re looking for group accommodation with a private indoor pool and hot tub, you’ll find that Jurston Barn in Somerset ticks all the right boxes. You don’t often find group holiday accommodation where history, luxury and up-to-the-minute convenience blend seamlessly, but at Jurston Barn that’s exactly what you get. This 400 year old barn once served as a cowshed, but one amazing transformation later and tah-dah! 6 en suite bedrooms sleep 12 people, there’s a big open plan kitchen/dining room, a sitting room/games room with a mezzanine, and the icing on the cake, that private indoor pool and landscaped garden with a hot tub and play area for the young ‘uns.

A real bonus of Jurston Barn is that it’s really easy to get to, being within a few miles of the M5 and just off the A38. The last part of your journey takes you along a sun dappled lane – only for about half a mile- and that’s where it starts to feel like you have your own little haven, away from the hectic pace of everyday life. Once you get inside the gate to the landscaped gardens you just know it’s going to be a wonderful stay. Go on in through the big double doors and that’s when the wow factor hits; before you is a huge open-plan kitchen-dining room with a snug to one end, enormous soaring timbers and a big glass roof that lets the light just pour in.

Wander around and you’ll notice how rustic features merge harmoniously with the modern interiors; original beams, centuries old brickwork, uneven walls and latch and brace doors. You’ll see how the sunlight falls in certain ways at different times of the day, and what’s hard to deny is the almost overwhelming sense of calm. The whole place just looks and feels really good, and what’s more, you’ll have every luxury you could wish for during your large group stay – goose feather and down bedding*, seriously comfy beds that you can choose to have arranged as superkings or twins, power showers, luxury toiletries… The kitchen is very high-end, made just for Jurston Barn, all the drawers close softly, the fridge dispenses ice cold filtered water that comes fresh from a spring just over the garden fence. You’ll love it, you’ll love it all.

Understandably, you probably won’t feel the need to go out anywhere, and why would you when you’ve got everything you need right here? Idle the days away just enjoying all of you being together; have lazy barbecues on the patio, chatter while you soak in the hot tub, lark about in the pool. The kids will be shrieking with joy in the play area, bouncing about on the trampoline, and the teenagers will be content in the games room playing pool or table football. If they bring their games consoles they can plug them in to the TV on the mezzanine; everyone’s going to be happy. And we mean everyone – the ground floor at Jurston Barn is all access friendly so the less able bodied will be able to get around without any bother.

Should you need bits and bobs you can pop into Wellington and get what you need from the butchers, the fishmongers, the bakers, or the farmer’s market. If you fancy a stroll in the gorgeous Somerset countryside go up to Wellington Monument or Culm Beacon where the views are incredible and seem to go on and on forever. Take a picnic or tie it in with lunch at one of the village pubs, like The Culm Valley Inn or The Holman Clavel. Spend an afternoon in Taunton, the county town, where you can grab some retail therapy or have a stroll through Vivary Park; go there to play golf, to swing on the high ropes at the adventure centre, or just to stroll around. On the outskirts of the town there’s a multi-screen cinema, a bowling alley and a choice of places for eats.

If you're planning days out, well, where to start? The seaside? So, go to Bishops Lydeard, hop on the steam train at the West Somerset Railway and alight at Minehead if you want golden sands and old-fashioned bucket and spade fun. Otherwise stop at the quiet harbour town of Watchet where you can visit the holy well, potter about the harbour and watch the world go by. Only about an hour's drive, the Jurassic Coast is well worth seeing, especially Lyme Regis where you can play crazy golf, go to the marine aquarium and try catching your supper on a mackerel fishing tripCharmouth is quieter and great for rockpooling, fossil hunting or walking on the clifftops along the South West Coast Path. Not far down the motorway is Exeter; go shopping, visit the Gothic cathedral, the medieval underground passages and take the kids to meet Gerald the Giraffe at the RAM Museum.

Head on over to the Quantock Hills and bag a few summits, like Wills Neck and Cothelstone Hill; visit Nether Stowey and have a look round Coleridge Cottage where romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived for a while, enjoy a family trip to Tropiquaria Zoo Animals & Fun.  Discover the heather clad moors, steep wooded hillsides and lush river valleys of Exmoor National Park; go to Watersmeet or Tarr Steps, amble around the pretty village of Dunster and see the imposing castle (NT) high on the hill above the streets. Take the family to Exmoor Zoo or to Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre, then find a tea shop where you can tuck into big fat scones laden with jam and and clotted cream.

There are some beautiful old houses in these parts, like Hestercombe with its enchanting follies, and Knightshayes near Tiverton. Just up the road is Sheppy's Cider where you can stroll through the apple orchards and see how cider is made. But like we said, with all that Jurston Barn has you may not want to go anywhere, and if that’s the case, we don’t blame you. Just stay put, unwind, relax and enjoy yourselves in your own private little world. Spot on.

We could go on and on, waxing lyrical about how much we love this place, but suffice it to say that if you’ve been trawling the net trying to find group accommodation with a private indoor pool and hot tub that’s just right, well, now you can stop. Jurston Barn is an absolute gem for family holidays, those happy celebrations where you want to be with your nearest and dearest, for the more refined type of hen weekends, and for self-catering corporate breaks.
