When we get a call to go and look at a holiday house in Devon sleeping 14 with a pool and hot tub, naturally, we get a little excited. We like looking at potential properties to add to our portfolio of luxury large group accommodation, so we popped it in our diaries and last week, there we were, in the cold November wind, heading down to Cullompton in Mid Devon.
And so, we are delighted to formally introduce you to Herons Bank: a luxuriously modern holiday house in Devon sleeping 14 with a pool and hot tub. There’s plenty of parking, a big wide hallway leading off to a downstairs bedroom that sleeps 5, a commodious sitting room, and a large and well equipped kitchen. The other side of the kitchen there’s a utility room, straight ahead is the conservatory style dining room with a long table that sets the scene nicely for enormous celebratory feasts. You can just imagine it; food, table decorations, balloons, and 14 very happy people sat around it raising a glass to some lucky so-and-so’s significant birthday. That’s the way to do it – celebrate with the people who mean the most to you.
Next to the dining room there’s a games room and well, it’s obvious there’s going to be a lot of chillin’ done here. Like most of the rooms at Herons Bank, there’s a big TV, comfy seating and a full size snooker table. Then you go through to the spa hall and the wow factor jumps up and shouts out loud and clear! The pool is set to one side of the room so there’s plenty of room for loungers and little tables for your drinks; down the end by the French doors is the hot tub, and there’s one of those table tennis tables that you can use inside or out. Grand, innit?
Upstairs are 4 bedrooms and a big bathroom. What’s good about the bedrooms is that they have lovely deep carpet (isn’t it always such a treat to wiggle your toes into a nice thick carpet?), two of them have en suite shower rooms, and they’re all a very good size. Big enough in fact for 3 beds in Bedroom 2, and you can have them arranged as a superking and a single or as three singles, so it’s an equally good set up for families, or for friends who are happy to share. All of the bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe space and Bedroom 1 has a balcony, which makes rather a nice setting for a cheeky nightcap beneath the stars.
The gardens are mostly south facing which means you can really make the most of any bright sunny days bestowed upon us; get out there, laze about on the lawns, play with the kids, fire up the barbecue and while away the day chatting and catching up. Round it off with a glass of your favourite tipple as the sun goes down. Isn’t that what holidays are made of?
Because you’ll have everything you need at Herons Bank and everyone will be so relaxed and happy you might not feel the need to go out whilst you’re here; just shut yourselves away from the world and completely unwind. If on the other hand, you’d like to see a few of the things this wonderful part of the South West has to offer you’ll find plenty within just a few miles. Country pubs you can cosy up in for some tasty homemade nosh, walks in the beautiful Blackdown Hills, family attractions like Killerton House, Diggerland and Wildwood Escot, and fun-filled activities like Quad World, Land Rover Experience West Country and Go-Ape in the vast Haldon Forest Park.
You can have a trip on a horse drawn barge along the Grand Western Canal at Tiverton, or head down to Exeter for a day in the city exploring the medieval Underground Passages, taking in the Gothic cathedral or strolling along the Quay. There’s so much to see and do round here, you’re rather spoilt for choice.
