Bere Cider Company, Langport, Somerset

Here's a nice thing to do when you're out and about exploring on your large group holiday in Somerset: go to the shack at Bere Cider Company just outside of Langport and sample cider that's still made to traditional methods on a working farm. It tastes good because it's made from nothign but English cider apples that are grown in their own orchards, and because they know what they're doing - after all, they've been making it for four generations, so it's in their blood.

'Jim's Shack' has all the rustic vibes you'd expect, with cider straight from the barrel for you to try; sit there and sip a drop of cider, perry or apple juice and you'll soon be putting the world to rights with the friendly owners. Then you'll want to buy some of the brew to take home with you, but before you settle up, make sure there's nothing else you want from the shop - those local jams, chutneys, pickles and cheeses are hard to resist.

There's also a cafe and bar where you can stop for breakfast, lunch, a cream tea, or fi you fancy it, an alcoholic beverage. If you happen to visit Bere Cider Farm on a warm sunny day, you might well want to linger because it's so nice here - one of those lovely little places where it feels like all is well in the world.
