Bishopswood, Somerset

Bishopswood is a traditional village nestled in the Blackdown Hills, where the same families have run the farms and worked the land for generations. Lucky you if you're staying here on your large group holiday in Somerset because the peace and quiet are such a far cry from the hectic pace of life in the bigger towns and cities these days. It's like time slows down here and no-one has a care in the world, and why wouldn't you want more of that?

There are some pretty cottages straddling the hill up through the village; halfwayup is The Candelight Inn, a popular gastropub that has struck the balance of keeping locals and visitors happy. Nearby are the local nature reserves at Bishopswood Meadows and Otterhead Lakes, both fantastic for a stroll and for spotting the flora and fauna. There’s a lovely walk through the woods to the neighbouring village of Buckland St Mary, and plenty more footpaths to explore within the parish, so Bishopswood is a great base for walking or dog friendly holidays.
