Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire

With its idyllic streets, honey coloured chocolate-box cottages and the River Windrush happily meandering it's way along it’s easy to see why Bourton-on-the-Water has gained the accolade of one of the prettiest villages in England. You must visit when you're on your large group holoidays in Gloucestershire because this is such a lovely place, oozing with Cotswold charm, and it's rather nice to spend time browsing the little shops, or stopping for a relaxing lunch at one of the tea rooms or inns – the Mousetrap Inn is good for traditional pub fare, or try Rose Tree Restaurant or Bakery On The  Water if you fancy a slice of cake.

It does get busy in the summer because understandably, so many people want to come and see this place, and if you can see past the crowds or come when it's quieter, it really is like stepping back in time, with an almost Victorian quality about it. There’s a quaint village green and several charming stone bridges crossing the river - hence the village being known as ‘the Venice of the Cotswolds’. For families, there are some great places to visit at Bourton, including The Cotswold Motoring Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens, and The Dragonfly Maze.
