Branscombe, Devon

Tucked away on the East Devon coast, Branscombe has to be one of the loveliest villages in the West Country; Leave the main road and follow the narrow winding lanes to the village where the streets slope steeply down to the beach, and are lined with centuries old stone cottages; roses clamber enthusiastically up to the windows, hanging baskets brim with flowers.

When the weather is good, lots of people come here to mill about because it's such a nice place to be; there’s a lovely church, an old bakery with tea rooms, and a forge, and two good pubs – the Masons Arms and the Fountain Head. Down on the shingle beach is the award winning Sea Shanty Beach Café, with amazing coastal views; go for a hike up over the cliffs on the South West Coast Path, come back for a well earned cream tea.
