Croyde, Devon

Croyde is well known for its excellent surf so you can bet that whatever time of year you come here, there's gonna be plenty of cool dudes about, catching the waves, checking out the rips, striding down the beach in their wetsuits. Maybe their laid-backness contributes to the relaxed vibe of this North Devon village, that and the pretty thatched cottages, the little tea shops and pubs. Whatever it is, there's an undeniable charm, which is amazing considering how hectic it can get here in the summer, especially when the annual Goldcoast OceanFest is on.

There are three beaches at Croyde; the main one leading off the village is wide and sandy, backed by sand dunes and then the rolling green hills, so it's a sheltered spot where you'll find everyone just going about their business, getting on with things; families making sandcastles, people sunbathing, going for a swim. Some like to venture off on the nature trails or up on the clifftops for a stroll to Baggy Point, rounded off with tea and cake at Sandleigh Tea Room & Garden. back in the village they say Blue Groove and The Thatch are good for eats.

That surf? Well, they say that if you can surf Croyde you can surf anywhere...
