Duende, Wiveliscombe, Somerset

Duende’s buzzwords are fresh, seasonal, local, but you can certainly add mouth-watering and delicious to that. Where does the name come from? Duende is said to be the hardest Spanish word to translate into English; the nearest meaning is spirit, passion, inspiration, a spontaneous feeling arising in creativity; mix that in with high quality food and you’ve got something terrific.
The menu changes through the year of course, but offers such delights as Smoked Trout, Celeriac Remoulade and Pickled Beetroot, and King Scallops, Creamed Celeraic, Crispy Pancetta & Kummel Cream for starters. On the mains are Free Range Chicken Breast, Braised Hispi, Potato Galette &Truffle Oil Dressing, Rump of Lamb, Potato Panna Cotta, Zucchini, Balsamic & Pesto Dressing, and Roasted Mediterranean Vegetables, Split Fava Beans & Pesto Dressing; puddings divine, cheeseboard scrumptious, and the pared back eclectic interiors are exquisite; metallic distressed walls, handmade lampshades, original artworks. Go see, go eat.
