Dunster Castle, Dunster, Somerset
As you approach the quaint little village of Dunster, you can see the turrets of the castle rising above the wooded slope where it stands, in true fairytale style, above the village. Once a motte and bailey castle, with over 1,000 years of history, it is now owned by the National Trust. Dunster Castle houses interesting collections of paintings, silver, porcelain, furniture, and books – there’s an impressive library with leather effect wallpaper. There are trails for children to follow, a secret passageway to discover and you can have a behind the scenes tour of the Attic and Victorian Kitchen; in the Billiard Room you can challenge your friends and family to a game of snooker, whilst outside you can explore the dog friendly grounds and parkland, and visit the fully restored 18th century working watermill.
Opening times vary throughout the year so it would be wise to check the website before you go.
