Exe Fishing, Exmouth, Devon

If you go out on the waters on a mackerel or reef fishing trip with Exe Fishing, what you’ll notice is the incredible ambience, how quiet and peaceful it is out at sea; a far cry from the hustle and bustle back on the seafront in Exmouth. So, bear it in mind, maybe book ahead for when you’re on your large group holidays in Devon. It’s for all ages and all abilities, so something the whole family can do together; if you don’t all want to fish, that’s fine, spectators are welcome too.

It’s a lovely thing to do, go out on a traditional wooden fishing boat and catch your supper. Rods and tackle are included in the price and the crew are so helpful. They’ll show you how to cast your line and reel in your catch, you can keep it all, and they’ll even gut it and prepare it ready for you to cook when you’re back on dry land. You might well get the chance to steer the boat if you ask nicely, and always in your sights will be the spectacular scenery; this is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the trips take in the calm waters of the River Exe as it meets the sea.

The boat, the Southern Angler sets sail from the seafront at Exmouth and from the marina. What you need to know is that mackerel fishing trips are 2 hours long and reef fishing 3 hours; also, there’s no cover on the boat and it tends to be a bit chiller out at sea so take a fleece or something. There are loos and refreshments onboard and dogs are allowed as long as you keep them under control on leads.

If there’s a big group of you, you might want to arrange a private charter for up to 40 people (25 fishing), a great idea for birthdays and other momentous occasions, or just because.
