Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucestershire

Calling all Harry Potter fans and their families! Escape from the summer heat to the cool hallowed shade of Gloucester cathedral. This former Benedictine Monastery was rebuilt in glorious Gothic style in the Victorian era and is famous for its beautiful fan vaulted 15th century cloisters, wonderful collection of carvings, and the shrine of King Edward II. The cloisters are where many of the Harry Potter scenes were filmed and there’s an exciting Harry Potter Trail for all the family to join in, as well as a Green Man Trail, spotting all 40 of the historic Green Man carvings. On Cathedral Tours you can climb the 269 steps of the tower for far reaching views of the Gloucester countryside, returning for a bite to eat in the tranquil lawned Garth, within the cloister walls, or in the lovely coffee shop.
