Greyhound Inn, Staple Fitzpaine, Somerset

Dogs and muddy boots are welcome at the Greyhound Inn at Staple Fitzpaine in Somerset's Blackdown Hills, so what you should do is come here after a walk at Castle Neroche, Staple Hill or Otterhead Lakes. It won't matter what time of year it is, there'll be log fires to warm you when it's cold, and in the summer you can sit out on the terrace in the sunshine.

The Greyhound is a big old rambling place, not without its centuries old character; flagstone floors, stone walls, and thick oak beams are the backdrop to more modern interiors. Food is homemade traditional pub grub, ingredients are sourced locally, as you'd expect. On the menu are favourites like Fish & chips, Liver & bacon, and a choice of sandwiches. Non meat eaters are catered for with the likes of Halloumi burger and Italian borlotti bean stew.

This is a handy one to remember if you’re out and about as it’s only 5 minutes from Taunton and 10 minutes from J25 of the M5. Round off your day out with a drink or something to eat; you're on holiday so why not?
