Kilve Beach, Somerset

Forget sandcastles, Kilve Beach has a landscape entirely of its own, but is worth a visit nonetheless, especially if you’re a keen fossil hunter or nature spotter. There is a little bit of sand, though the beach is mostly rocks and rockpools, with a backdrop of low cliffs and lawns for picnics, with a spectacular outlook towards the Isle of Steepholm in the Bristol Channel. While some time away rockpooling, or looking for ammonites, and then stop off up the lane at the Chantry Tea Gardens for refreshments, or the Hood Arms in the village for lunch.
