Paignton Zoo, Paignton, Devon

They're seriously big on conservation at Paignton Zoo and they work with partners to conserve biodiversity and protect endangered animals, even taking part in breeding programmes for some of the world's most endangered species. All good stuff. There are over 2,000 animals here, living in carefully designed habitats of wetlands, tropical rainforests, desert plains, savannah, and the Primley Zone which is home to baboons, giant tortoises, crocodiles and owls. Wander around and see giraffes, lions, cheetahs, gorillas, black rhinos, bongos, camels, boa constrictors, emus, red eyed leaf frogs, oh, far too many to mention! Younger children will love a ride on the Jungle Express Train, the nature trail and the indoor and outdoor play areas. When you're peckish head to the Island Restaurant or one of the food shacks dotted around the zoo; this really is a fantastic day out for the whole family and is well worth travelling to from your Sleeps12 large group holiday home in Devon or Somerset.
