Saintes, Charentes-Maritime

Saintes is the second biggest city in the Charentes-Maritime and it’s well worth a trip here because it’s a very good-looking place, with plenty to see and do. The town is rich in cultural heritage with incredible architecture, like the Amphitheatre Gallo-Romain, Abbaye aux Dames, Arch of Germanicus, St Eutropius Basilica, and the Cathedral Sainte Pierre de Saintes. Most of them conveniently have marked selfie spots so you can get the perfect pic of yourself in front of these landmarks.
You’ll find several museum and galleries, and the town plays host to several regular music festivals and events. If you’re less of a culture vulture, more of a serial shopper, you’ll enjoy browsing the cosy boutiques and farmer’s markets. If you want a breather away from the crowds, head for the public gardens, stroll along the river or take a leisurely boat trip on the Charente. A good day out.
