Southampton, Hampshire
Southampton is Hampshire’s biggest city and is known as the cruise capital of Europe, attracting over four million visitors a year. If you’re not really one for busy places, don’t let that put you off because there’s so much there, you can easily find somewhere to escape the hustle and bustle; Tudor House and Garden is a good start. Otherwise, a boat trip on the River Solent is a very relaxing way to pass an hour or so, or you can discover some interesting stuff on a guided tour of the Old Town, at the City Art Gallery, or in the SeaCity Museum.
Southampton is a popular destination for those with a penchant for retail therapy; there are two huge indoor shopping centres as well as boutique shopping areas for those who like something more quirky. The nightlife is buzzing with a range of clubs, theatres and music venues, and there are countless places to eat by day and night, including ChariTeas Tearooms, The Flying Dutchman and Bacaro.
Not a bad day out, all things considered.
