The Drewe Arms, Broadhembury, Honiton, Devon

If ever there was a village pub where you wanted to linger this is it; the building dates back to medieval times and is packed full of character – old beams, flagstone floors, a wood-burner, and outside a lovely garden with big chunky benches and the backdrop of the church tower.
The food is very good, pub classics with a modern twist and it’s all homemade using locally sourced ingredients. On the lunch menu are Pan Fried John Dory, Venison Sausages and the ever popular Drewe Arms Burger, plus a pleasing selection of sandwiches on homemade white or brown bread.
The setting, in the Devon village of Broadhembury, is utterly charming, old thatched cottages line the streets and it looks the same as it has for centuries, give or take a few modern additions. It’s good walking country too, so have a wander and then head back to the pub for a leisurely lunch washed down with a pint of Otter ale. Dogs welcome.
