The Duck, Burtle, Somerset

An award winning pub that’s popular with foodies, quite a gem tucked away on the moors of the Somerset Levels. This is the third re-incarnation of this pub which first opened as a railway hotel in 1856. If you’re out and about exploring this beautiful part of Somerset, then stop here for lunch and you’ll find a menu packed with local produce; Pan Fried Duck Breast with Honey Roasted Sweet potato, Vegetables and a Black Cherry Sauce, Grilled Barnsley Chop with Dauphinoise Potatoes, Vegetables and a Mint Jus, and Beetroot, Brie and Walnut Wellington Slice, Crushed New Potatoes and Vegetables with a White Wine, Cream and Mushroom Sauce. It’s all fresh and airy with wooden floors and stone walls; there are cosy seating areas with inviting sofas, and wood-burning stoves are lit on chillier days. They do afternoon tea and cake too, and there’s a Little Ducks Menu for the young ‘uns. Dogs are welcome and there’s a pretty garden out the back.
