Close to the village of Hatch Beauchamp, Frog Street is a rambling, traditional Somerset longhouse tucked away down the lanes, surrounded by beautiful countryside, yet not far at all from the M5 motorway (J25) and only a couple of miles off the A358.

This gorgeous large group holiday house is packed to the rafters (or the old elm beams to be more precise) with character; homely and inviting, and despite the low ceilings and small windows, it’s spacious and light and airy. There’s snooze space for 12 (2 more at an EXTRA charge per person), a good sized living room, dining room, farmhouse kitchen and games room. Outside thick wisteria scrambles up the walls, a fig tree grows by the kitchen window, and cottage garden flowers tumble merrily together. A leafy pergola leads to a large patio and the main garden where there’s a spa lodge with a 5m swim spa, a hot tub and a seating area on the veranda overlooking the fields. There’s a BBQ lodge with its own mini kitchen, and there's a children’s play area. Perfect, perfect, perfect.

The thing is, you get somewhere like this and you feel so happy that you don’t really care about going out, but you ought to; for a start there’s all that fantastic countryside to explore. Right on your doorstep there’s a footpath that takes you on a short walk through the fields to the village of Beercrocombe and on to Curry Mallet where you can have lunch at the pub or a cup of tea in the garden at the little post office. You can stroll along the lanes to the Hatch Inn for a bite to eat, and if you go on a Wednesdays you can buy fish and chips from the cart outside to takeaway.

If you fancy a browse around a town you’ve got quite a choice in these parts; Taunton is good, lots of shops, a park with an adventure centre, and a good museum, but there are some appealing smaller towns too, like Ilminster and Langport. Just a couple of miles from Langport is the village of Muchelney where you can visit the abbey and the church that has angels painted on the wagon roof; go on around the lanes to Burrow Hill Cider Company, or out onto the magical Somerset Levels. Have a day out in Wells and see the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace, take the kids to Wookey Hole or Cheddar Gorge, or down to Crealy Park, visit some of the historic houses and gardens in the area – Montacute HouseBarrington CourtForde Abbey or Hestercombe House. Pack a picnic and have a day in the wilds of the Quantock Hills, the Blackdowns or on Exmoor; head over to the Jurassic Coast to Lyme Regis for mackerel fishing, or Charmouth for fossil hunting and rockpooling.

But like we said, if you want to stay put, we understand because that’s just it with Frog Street; it’s not just a place to stay, it’s a place to enjoy.
