This big old house dates back to 1741 and it's certainly seen some changes since then; in more recent years it's been carefully extended and renovated, and the result is a wonderful large group holiday home with heaps of space including 8 bedrooms and a games room. Outside in the acre of gardens there's a covered heated pool and a Scandinavian style BBQ lodge that can be used any time of year; for the little ones there's a play area and a trampoline. Right on the eastern fringes of the Forest of Dean, Viney Hill Country House is surrounded by beautiful open countryside. Get out and play, go and explore.

If you're the outdoorsy kind of folk you can go walking, cycling with Pedalabikeaway or horse riding in the Forest of Dean, or you can get yourselves out on the River Wye for some serious water-based fun. Go to Wyedean Canoe & Adventure Centre at Symonds Yat and hire a canoe, or go rock climbing, abseiling, even caving; have fun stand up paddleboarding with SUPYOFI at Ye Old Ferrie Inn on the banks of the River Wye, and for high and low rope courses go to Go Ape Forest of Dean just a couple of miles away. Wildlife lovers will enjoy looking out for the peregrine falcons that nest at Symonds Yat Rock, and a visit to Slimbridge Wetland Centre; anglers will find excellent river fishing at various beats on the River Wye. If you need supplies pop into Lydney and whilst you're there have a mooch round the little harbour and go and see the 12th century St Briavels Castle. If you fancy something a bit more cosmopolitan, then have a day in Gloucester and visit the cathedral, or go to Bristol, potter around Clifton Village or the vibrant Gloucester Road, visit SS Great Britain, We The Curious, or Bristol Zoo Gardens.

Go and follow the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail, take the family for a ride on the steam train with Perrygrove Railway and get off at Foxy Hollow for a picnic, go underground at Clearwell Caves or Hopewell Colliery, join in a ferret walk and dress up as a Victorian school child at the Dean Heritage Centre. Have a day out at The International Centre for Birds of Prey or Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo; within an hours' drive or so is the popular Big Pit National Coal Museum,  Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole and Longleat Wildlife Park. You'll find more inspiration on our Things To Do pages, but you know what? If all you want to do is stay in your own little world at Viney Hill with the pool and the BBQ lodge and the games room...well, we perfectly understand.
